I am a Professor of Surgery with a special interest in General, Colorectal and Laparoscopic surgery. My specific interests are the treatment of Colorectal cancergallbladder removal and hernia repair via the ‘keyhole method’ and newer operations for the treatment of haemorrhoids (piles). I have a particular interest in patients who have developed intestinal fistulae.

I was  Medical Director for Planned Care running a surgical and clinical research practice at the Chelsea and Westminster Foundation NHS Trust, London. In  addition to providing an Emergency General Surgery Service my principal research interests investigated Colorectal Cancer cell physiology in collaboration with the  Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology. I was principle investigator on the HIFU project that uses non invasive high frequency ultrasound in the treatment of rectal cancer where orthodox treatments have failed.

I was Secretary of the European Society of Coloproctology , now remaining on Executive representing the medical journal Colorectal Disease (Editorial Board). I was  President of The Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland 2016-17
